Hey r/frugal, I love this forum and I frequent it a lot. That's why I have gotten almost everything for my apartment (dishes, cookware, decor, etc) from dollar stores and relatives. But there are a few key things that I am wondering about:
-water saving: my apartment does not have a dishwasher, I'm fine with that I grew up in poverty without a dishwasher my entire life, never had one never wanted one. But this is the first time I'll be responsible for paying the water bill and don't quite know if dishwashers save water or doing them by hand uses more water. I'm more concerned about hearing about any methods you guys use in order to do dishes without wasting/using a lot of water.
-Leaving things plugged in: does it make a difference? I'm moving in with my trial-husband (BF) and between the two of us we have two big flat screen tvs, 2 different gaming platforms, a computer, a bunch of lamps, Christmas lights, fans, etc. Does it make a difference to keep these things plugged in?
Also we have a mini-fridge we were thinking about using as a beer fridge... Is it worth it?
-showering, cooking, etc: If I remember correctly the property manager had told us the stove and heat is electric. My TH and I shower together everyday so not too concerned about showers spiking the water bill, but would love any tips and tricks. My biggest passion is cooking and baking, and I would absolutely appreciate anyone who is similarly culinary-obsessed with how you save money cooking food.
I know some of this information could be googled, but I more appreciate a real person giving me real experiences than a blogger spamming for page views or giving ill-advice due to some sort of sponsorship.
Any advice you have for me on this or in general would be wonderful :) thank you for taking the time to read this!
