I tell people that this backpack is great all the time, and since the "backpack" thread is archived, I thought that I'd make a separate post. I bought this bag in 2011 and it's already lasted through three deployments, as well as vacations to Europe, Mexico, Canada, and South America.
It's got space for everything with out being complicated or cumbersome, and the two top outside pockets are great for wallets, phones, and keys for easy access. It has a dedicated computer pocket that I've trusted for years to keep my computer safe.
However, the reason I wanted to post was not only is the bag itself great, but the 5.11 company impressed me so much. Even though the it carries weight really well, I haven't loaded it up completely in the last few years, and so I guess I lost half of the sternum strap that really makes it comfortable with a heavy load (the strap attaches to the webbing on the shoulderstraps, and is adjustable/removable). After a few years, I finally called 5.11 customer service directly and asked if they sold replacement parts. They were very helpful in finding exactly what I needed, and even though I said that I got the backpack through a third party almost a decade ago, they just asked me for my address, no other questions asked. Unfortunately they said that only the sandstone color (although I have the black one) was available for immediate shipping, and I said that was completely fine.
Today, like 5 business days later, I got my package in the mail with both the sandstone AND the black chest straps. I know it's only like a $1.50 worth of merchandise, but I was still very much impressed with the customer service on top of a backpack that will continue to serve me for the foreseeable future.
