Hopefully this is an appropriate place to ask this question. My wife got a phone call today from a random number on her cell phone from a "lawyer" who is apparently representing a company we took a payday loan out with 9 or 10 years ago. He says she owes money to the company and told her she will be served with summons and possibly have her wages garnished if she does not pay the $800 today. He did not provide any business name, only a phone number and his name.

Seems INCREDIBLY sketchy to me. I'm just looking for some assistance or insight from folks who are more knowledgeable than me. If we do in fact owe a debt, aren't there restrictions about them contacting us after the debt is so old? Are we obligated to take care of this or should we just call their potential bluff and wait to see if she does in fact get served?

Thank you for any help!
