Okay, both my spouse and I will both be 55 this year, and well, he is a very hardworking cook, and sadly doesn't earn very much doing it, but very good boss and is well respected and treated at his job. It's getting hard though, bad leg, and we were recently married (me after a recent divorce within the last year).....I know he would work until he dies if he had to, but I don't want that to be the case. How can we determine how much we really need to have him retire. He won't get like social security or anything, and I lost mine for sure by getting married to him. (if any, will be meager in the future)....So, I have heard this 4% rule about retirement......but also, if you have money put away and I do have residual? Passive? income from land rent, so this is double what he earns, that I think we might be okay to retire soon, and live on this income and still have back up in my accounts. We do wish to travel, but we are very simple people and like doing very simple things. Thanks for any advice.......
