I live in eastern PA, where the average temperature in the summer isn't too bad (mid-upper 80s). Even when it gets into the low 90s with dew points under 70, I can deal with it. But there's some days where it just gets unbearably hot. Last summer there were 2 heat waves where it got so hot and humid (high of 95/low of 75) I couldn't sleep at night. I had 2 fans running on me and my windows all the way open, and my room still felt like it was a swamp.
I've tried to close my blinds to keep the sun out during the day, and closing those windows, but that's not very effective. Maybe it's because my blinds suck, but I don't know. While my room doesn't get as hot as it does without doing that, it still makes for some uncomfortable nights.
I've considered buying a used portable AC off Craigslist and only running it during the hottest part of the day, but I want that to be an absolute last resort. I know there are cheaper ways. Should I buy blackout curtains? Should I tint my windows? Should I do something else I haven't thought of yet? I'd appreciate any advice. I'd like to test out any suggestions during this mini heat wave tomorrow and Thursday, where it'll get hot but not unbearably hot.
