1) Don't get the first model of anything. Wait for next year's model to cut price add features.
2) Usually, don't get the most recent yearly model of anything.
3) When buying a portable device, portability matters more than a large screen. With laptops, 13" > 15". With tablets, 8" > 10" and don't go too bulky.
4) Wait 2 years after launch before buying a game console
5) Beware of novelty tech under $50. Seems like dust collecting category.
6) The Samsung Galaxy S3 and Note 3 are pretty good deals for used phones.
7) Buy a computer with good build quality so you don't have to keep buying new ones every year or two. Right now it seems like Apple and Asus are the best companies for this.
8) If your desktop computer is aging, consider installing an SSD and more RAM into rather than buying a new one.
9) A good bang-for-buck mid-range laptop right now is probably buying a used Macbook Pro 2012 on ebay from a reputable seller and replacing the optical disk drive with a solid state drive (then switch the OS to the ssd).
10) Don't buy Beats by Dre (way overpriced). Sennheisers, at just about every price point are a great option. If you are looking for studio headphones, you don't need to spend over $150 because HD598's are where it's at.
