I desperately wanted one of these, the Casio-54W, when I was in elementary school in the 80's. I imagined instantly knowing the answers to adult's math questions, and, of course, cheating on tests. In my mind it would have been a little like having a super power. Suffice to say, I never got my hands on one until I went to college. It didn't have the same cache by that time, of course. For one thing, any math related class I was in required a calculator by that time... Anyway, it ended up in a box of miscellany in the late 90's. I was digging through said box the other day, 20ish years later, and found the 54W. I was amazed to find that not only was the battery still functioning, it had kept time all these years. The display read Sunday, May 14th, 201I was amazed to find that not only was the battery was still functioning. Also, it had kept time all these years. The display read SU, 5/14/17, 5:47 PM. A tinge of guilt ran through me. The 54W had spent decades in a box, working flawlessly, patiently waiting for my return.
