I need some help identifying what I'm looking at here. I started to clean an area of water damaged paint and plaster, only to have it completely fall away. There is some kind of metal mesh behind the plaster(?).The fix does not have to be aesthetically perfect, I'm more concerned with patching the hole, which is about 5-6" wide. Thing is, I can't even begin to identify what this is. I thought plaster used lath, which I don't see, and I know stucco uses the metal mesh but isn't that only used on exteriors? This is above the main entryway door, inside the house. The leaking roof has been replaced, so further damage should not be an issue.Any help would be appreciated.
