We're a family of four: me, my wife, 2.5 year old son and a new born daughter. We're sitting on quite a bit of cash in our savings account and are looking for some advice on what to do with it. I know keeping it in our savings account earning 0.1% interest is pointless. We have a home already and are just looking to invest the money somewhere until we need it. We're not looking for something super aggressive like penny stocks. Is a low cost index fund the way to go? Should we invest in something other than stocks? We've maxed out our Roth IRA and are both contributing a ton to our kids 529 college account. I'm sure I'm leaving out a ton of details but would appreciate any advice anyone has. Thanks in advance.
