Hello,

I just received an offer for a job for 68k. I counter offered with 75k and received this email:

"I was looking back at my notes from our initial conversation and you had said that your salary requirements were 65-70K. I am bit taken aback by your request to go 5,000 more than the range you originally gave us. I know you anticipate a promotion at the end of the year, but if I go back with an overly aggressive negotiation, you may risk rubbing the team the wrong way.

I can go forward with the 75K ask, but to be honest, I am not sure it is a smart choice and I don’t want you to lose out. What are your thoughts?"

I did submit a 65-70 range, but when learning more about the job through interviews, I think it's more at the 70-75k range.

Am I just getting played? Should I go ahead and ask anyway? I would accept the 68k.

Thanks!
