I recently got laid off, and have been looking for a job. I checked my facebook messages today and found an unsolicited message asking me to interview. Text of said message below, redacted as I feel necessary:
"Hello, I own a local restaurant here in [my town] and I am opening up seven more restaurants in [my town] over the next year or two. One of the restaurants I am about to open is going to be a [my hobby] museum/restaurant. You seem like you might be a good fit and I am hoping that you would be interested in interviewing for the position. After training, you would be eligible for a promotion that would start with an annual salary of $80,000--Which would not make you a mega millionaire overnight, but it is a pretty good income considering that it is $20,000 higher than the median income in [my state]. Please let me know if you are interested in interviewing. You can text me at [phone], thanks for your time. May the force be with you. 🙂"
The person that sent this apparently lives in [my town], and there appears to be an actual human on the other end of the line (when I responded asking a question about how they found me, they said they'd gotten data off my profile) but, for some reason, this whole thing smells strongly of fish and/or rat. Perhaps I'm paranoid, but I'm mistrustful of unsolicited messages over Facebook(!), and this offer, though very deliberately phrased ("You may qualify for a promotion that makes a bajillion dollars," implying I'd be starting at something significantly below that), is rather vague on what, exactly, I'd be doing.
On the other hand, it's a job interview. I feel like I wouldn't have much to lose aside from the hour or so of time I'd actually be in the building.
Any thoughts?
EDIT: just checked the sender's profile. I'm not friends with them, which may limit what I can see, but it seems that there's nothing on their profile aside from them living in [my town]. The plot thickens...
