If you want a canoe that can haul a lot and is still maneuverable I can't think of anything better than the one I grew up with. The Disco 169. Trips up river with logs and camping gear are made easier when placed in the bow. Granted I would not want to transport this lug over an extended portage. I'm saying this after 20+ years paddling this beast.
