It has only been two years, but I can see this trashcan lasting for decades. And I got it at Walmart! There is more than one kind. During a sale, they had a lower quality one, so do not be fooled! I think it is around $40. It is from Better Homes and Gardens if I recall correctly. The plastic ones are garbage. The spring system is still in good working condition, and our three person household uses it daily. I know it is something silly to post about, but we are very happy with it after experiencing so many lesser quality ones.
