I live in an urban area (think cheaper than San Francisco but more expensive than Minneapolis) and have checked out those cost of a child calculators (i.e http://ift.tt/2q2AEUw). Do parents think they are accurate? How much do you think you pay each month for the food, doctors copays, toys, and clothing? What are some expenses that aren't covered that I should know about? Also, I imagine a second kid is less than the first in some ways, but maybe not. For us personally some of the costs they include in the calculator are covered regardless of whether we have a kid. For example, we would buy a house regardless of child status, have two cars regardless, and health insurance that we pay for costs the same if you just have your spouse on it or up to 5 kids. Still, all you hear about is how much kids cost, so I'm curious as to what I'm missing. When you subtract out housing, transportation, and healthcare, the cost is only like $300/month which seems quiet low. Also if this has been covered elsewhere I apologize, I didn't see it.
