Im hoping this is the correct sub. Sorry if the format is wonky I'm on mobile. Kinda longish as well.
So basically I fucked up my grades (GPA fell to 1.87) and didn't get financial aid for the semester (January).I sorta panicked when it came to paying and I got an emergency tuition loan from my University for ~$4,000.
Now, something I learned about this loan(as I was applying for it...oops) is that the only payment option for it, is one whole payment. Still, the payment wasn't due until mid-May. I thought I had time to save some of that money, but I obviously didn't (had to quit my part-timer because of school) and ended up being charged the late fee (which is $30).
So I now owe ~$4,020.
It's the end of the semester now and I'm fucked, cause I still don't have the money and they've put holds on my grades/transcripts/etc. so I can't see them.
I live with my parents and my dad is offering to pay for it but I don't like the idea of taking that much money from him, when I was the one who fucked up. Plus I live with them for free and he's been paying for my phone bill too (when I had a job I'd pay him $50 a month for him to pay my phone).
I'm starting a part time job that pays $10/hr this summer. I'm thinking of getting a personal loan to pay. That way I'll be able to pay the school right away. I also think this'll help me build up a credit score as I don't have one yet(b/c my parents worried I'd get in major debt cause of what my older sister did lol). I'll probably need my dad to cosign the loan but I don't know if he'll do it. Also I don't know if instead of a personal loan I should just get a private student loan which honestly sounds so much better.
I don't know what to do to be honest I'm horrible with financial decisions, and getting that emergency loan was a bad idea and I should've thought it out more. I don't want my dad to have to pay all of it. I've been able to afford school because of scholarships and grants so far and the ~$4,020 is the first amount I owe the school.
Advice on what to do is really appreciated and thanks if you'd read this far :)
