I am looking for a very specific (and relatively easy, I think) and simple way of watching our monthly spending:
Basically, I just want to make sure we don't overspend our variable spending in a lump sum. I use Quicken to manage month-to-month expenses, categories, etc. but all I'm looking to do is be able to make a snap decision about eating out, buying a shirt, getting groceries when I'm headed to the store. For example, do I have $500 left in my overall variable spending money this month?" I don't really even care so much if grocery money is pulling from the clothing budget or whatever - I'll sort that out on the backend. Just want a way to track a few basic spending categories on my iPhone. I don't want rent and stuff like that to get bundled into this process.
Does that make sense?
