I recently moved into a 1st floor apartment that has a nice approximately 15’x15’ patio. This patio is wonderful and will see a lot of use. I would like to finish it somehow, however there are some complications. (Picture)1.) This deck is in lower Manhattan and is surrounded by pretty tall buildings. I would estimate it gets less than an hour of sunlight every day.2.) When I got it, the deck was covered in a slimy algae-like substance. We immediately cleaned it with a bleach like chemical solution and water and got it to the state you see in the pictures.3.) The deck does not drain very well. The cracks in between the wood are not large enough. Normally, wood will shrink with time, increasing drainage, but that does not seem to happen here. Should I drill some holes in the deck from drainage?I guess my question is, how can I finish a deck in a way that will discourage the slimy algae without much (practically any) sunlight, while also not clogging the cracks and discouraging drainage. Basically, this deck will see A LOT of moisture.Ideally, this finish would be able to survive New York winters as well.Any suggestions welcome. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2qTlmlt
