Are there any other ways to earn money from stocks other than dividends (stocks that do not pay out dividends, such as Berkshire) if I do not sell them?
In other words, are dividends and selling off the stock at a higher price the only 2 ways to earn money off a partcular stock?
Maybe a follow-up to this question would be using the Berkshire Hathaway stocks as an example again. Assuming that i am no relative of Buffett (which I am not), and I don't really care about the company rather than how it can make me money, why would I choose to buy the shares and participate in the company's decisions? This is of course under the assumption that the amount of shares I buy are not in the least sufficient to allow me to make any board decisions. Is it because I am able to get a share of whatever profit Berkshire receives proportional to my share in the company?
