As part of its reinvention, the Finnish firm bought Withings, a French startup that makes digital health products, last year. At the Mobile World Congress this year, Nokia promised a summer launch of rebranded Withings products as Nokia products. The new product portfolio includes an updated Health Mate app, which includes custom coaching programs for users made by fitness and medical professionals. Nokia is also planning to launch a HIPAA-compliant Patient Care platform. The platform is already in trials within the U.S. If approved, it could enable sharing of critical healthcare data across the web. The end game is to enable patients and doctors to share data on one platform from Nokia’s health devices.
By partnering with Apple for its healthcare products, Nokia has greatly magnified their reach. The deal is good for Apple as well. The Cupertino company’s bottom line will benefit from the popularity of Nokia’s products and collaboration will ensure that it can speed up similar efforts for its ResearchKit and AppleCare kit.
