Hi,My 50 gallon electric hot water heater is leaking a little (14 years old) and I've been told by a plumber it needs replacing. He also quoted me $1150 to install a tank with a 6 year warranty.I rather install this 12 year warrantied and well rated model myself: http://ift.tt/2quPt2r is some pics of my current Bradford heater http://ift.tt/2ptiOvL current heater is on a stand and I believe the new heater is a little taller (1.5", I think) and a little wider. The home depot guy said I would have to know how to solder copper and it took him 4 months to learn how to do it properly! The connections on the two heaters seem to be in nearly identical places, so I am wondering if I lowered the new heater to the exact same height (by trimming the legs of the stand) it would be case of unscrewing and screwing in the fittings? Or, I could put the new one on the ground and use Sharkbites or some other kind of extension to connect it? I'm not sure what to do about the relief valve connection?Any thoughts as to how to do this myself? Also, Home Depot offers a 5 year warranty after the manufactures warranty runs out for $69. I know in most cases these warrantees are not worth, but this one makes me wonder? Thanks so much in advance! Rob via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2quY3xQ
