I can buy the canned stuff, which makes things easier...but I really want to learn how to handle the dried kind.

It seemed easy enough, 'put them in water for 24 hours'. Really? Mine look tiny afterwards and are way harder than the canned ones. I also feel like I can't keep them in my fridge because they become sticky and weird.

I don't feel comfortable eating them, and I can't make hummus because they are harder.

What am I missing?

TL;DR Chickpeas are soaked for 24 hours and remain tiny and hard, if put in storage become sticky
