Hi everyone. I was just wondering if there are any ways to negotiate down a bill from brother's allergist.
My brother has had an allergy problem his whole life but seemed to be gone the last few years until recently this year they became bad. It was really bad and he got sick and tired of not knowing what causes them. So he went to see an allergist. The allergist did some tests and found out what my brother was allergic to. So fast forward now we got the bill from the doctor and it is for 744 dollars. Our insurance did not cover anything because we did not meet our deductible yet. This is the break down of the charges.
Broncospasm Eval: $61.68 New patient visit: $89.62 Prick Skin test: $521.48 ID skin test: $72.19 Total being $744.97
I called their office and asked if they can reduce the bill and the lady was kind of rude and said no at first then I said please as this is really hard for our family to pay off and she said she can knock off a 100 dollars if I paid right now. I was thankful she gave me that discount but it is still quite a big bill. I asked her for any payment plans and she said I pay it off in 7 months but I will have to pay the full amount, no discounts.
Is there anything I can do? Are these charges fair? This is quite a lot for my family and I. My parents do not make much and I am in graduate school with my own debt. My brother does feel bad but I do not blame him as his allergies were getting really bad. As of right now my family is looking at the monthly plan. Even with the 100 dollars off right now, it just seems we cannot pay it off right away. I would love to hear anyone's advice on this matter! Thanks for reading.
