Hi guys!

I wanted to know what options do I (28F) have for this. I went to Drs office2 weeks ago when i didnt have any health insurance yet (just moved here 1 month ago) and anyway I did read in some forums that you cant charge immigration medical costs to insurance.

I was not informed at the doctors office that lab tests were separate from what they were going to charge me.

I got charged 175 for the immigration paper work which I thought included lab costs (naïve me) and an extra 65 for a tetanus shot. Which is fine, seems very expensive to me but what do I know. I paid for this and go my way.

So i go home thinking that was over. But yesterday i got 2 billing envelopes in the mail that was from LabCorp (the lab the drs office sent my blood specimens to) and they total almost 900.

Is this how it works in the US? Is this a reasonable price tag for simple immigration lab tests and is there anything i can do to lower my amount payable? Also if i dont pay it what happens to me?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
