Very short story is Weber has won me back! We called Weber directly and explained our dissatisfaction and frustration and they had a tech come out to our house and fix my grill - and they warrantied the new part! I did still have to pay for my new manifold but they did the fix for me.
I know most of you are saying, Told you so" and that's fine - in fact, that's why I wanted to follow-up, to let you know you were right and Weber continues to have excellent customer service.
(Plus humility is a rare commodity on Reddit ;) )
