Hey guys...

I recently opened a Roth IRA and I also have a few mutual funds. I'm new to this sort of stuff and love reading things in this sub as well as listening to Dave Ramsey.

Can't remember where.. but I recently read about the Japan Nikkei 225 and how they've basically gone nowhere over the last 30 years.

Is it possible that that could ever happen to the US stock market? If so, is it likely or unlikely?

I guess...I'm excited that I'm investing now in my 20s (I don't think most of my friends are). But reading about the Nikkei was sort of depressing and really hit home that "past returns are not guarantees of future returns." But still...hopeful about my retirement savings.

Any insights? Sorry if this is super basic or commonly known knowledge...
