So I've worked for this company for almost 2 years now (intern for summer of 2015 and 2016, full time as of January 2017). As part of their benefits program, they match 100% of the first 3% invested in a regular 401k retirement fund. It turns out the HR rep didn't transition me properly from "part time" to "full time" status when they officially hired me in January 2017. So I was never enrolled into the 401k fund until now (4 months later). I haven't had the 3% pre-tax deduction from my pay, but I've also missed out on any 401k company matching.
Do I have a case to ask for the money I've missed out on? I would need to "pay back" 3% of my net income over the last 4 months to have a chance at seeing the 3% matching from the company...but this money has already been taxed so I'm confused if this is even feasible.
