Hey Redditors. So I pay $1,455.00 in rent and have been for the past few months to my landlord. My Fiancee lives with me and now she makes enough where she will start paying some. She will start off probably $500 a month and then move to $727.50 or 50 percent of the rent.
If we want give only one check to the Landlord, what is our best option. Should my Fiancee write me a check for her portion before I pay. In her check memo she could write "for my portion of rent check Payable to Martha XXXXX" (Martha is our landlord.)
Then I write one check for the full rent amount to Martha?
I don't want these monthly checks to appear like income obviously and cause any annoying issue down the road or paying taxes etc.
What is the recommended way for multiple roommates to pay one check to a landlord? What is the best thing for her to write in the memo section?
Note: I want to stay oldschool with checks. I like the easy record keeping. I don't want to use Venmo etc.
