I have seen several funds like PFF mentioned lately, and they seem to be paying a good amount of money. I was wondering if they are relatively safe. I know there will be price fluctuations and dividend fluctuations with any investment, but are they relatively safe from loosing a large chunk of their value or having their dividend cut in half. Basically what I am asking is are preferred stock etfs a good investment for someone like me who is about to retire and needs some additional income, and plans to leave the investment as is until I am gone, and my kids can then do whatever they want with it.
