On Monday I took my car in for its normal oil change (used a coupon and spent only $52 for full synthetic). When I went to pick up my car the manager told me I had to replace both lower ball joints and control arms. $480 ouch!

I put on about 25-30k miles per year and I had noticed a drop in my gas mileage over the past 6 months. After I got my car back, it was up 7mpg! I hadn't seen a number that high since I got the car. Based on my calculations, it will pay for itself in fuel cost savings alone ($495 in fuel savings). Not to mention I won't die due to my front wheels deciding to go separate ways.

TL;DR have a trusted mechanic inspect your car and spend money on maintenance as soon as possible. It could save you hundreds of dollars.
