Just yesterday my wife and I received some of the best news we could have imagined and I just had to tell somebody. We have now both landed jobs in our respective fields and have significantly increased our salaries. We were underwater all last year after we took a leap of faith to start a better life. I thought this day would never come.
One ago we left our dead end soul sucking jobs and moved across the country. At the ripe age of 26 years old and no college degrees we made $57,000 a year combined in 2015. We took two steps back to hopefully take two steps forward and last year we accumulated quite a bit of debt while only making $47,000. With our new salaries we are now on track to make $75,000/year and finally getting back on our feet with an opportunity to make $90,000 combined by the end of the year.
One year ago I thought I would be stuck making less than or around $30,000/year for the rest of my life and now I could potentially double that in the next 3-6 months. Filled with anxiety and a bit of guts I successfully negotiated a $15,000 raise now that I'm starting a new job. This post was part humble brag and part motivational. If you find yourself in a tough financial situation with no hope like we did, it is never too late to make a change. It was not easy, this last year was probably the most stressful yet fulfilling year of our lives, but it was worth it in the long run.
