I just set up my 401k at my new job. I figured out what % I want them to take from my check and my company matches up to 3%. My 401k at my old job (Vanguard) had an option to just save up the money in the account and I could invest in the various funds if I wanted to whenever I wanted. My new 401k (Slavic) didn't have that option. I either had to pick to invest in the pre-allocated portfolios (which were labeled "Aggressive Portfolio", "Moderate Portfolio" or "Conservative Portfolio") or various individual funds where you determine a % for each one. I do want to invest and grow it but I'd like to just save it for a few paychecks while I read up on the different options and how this all works since I don't have a lot of experience with this stuff.

Is this normal for a company not to give the option of just stashing it into your account without having to invest it?
