I see lots of discussion on BIFL items but frequently I'll look for BIFL versions of something only to realize it's not possible. I'll start:
Bath Towels - even high quality will wear out after 5 to 10 years
Cell Phones/Computers - will become obsolete once you can't get a modern OS to run that has current security updates
Refrigerators - technology keeps improving to make them more and more energy efficient. A BIFL fridge from 30 years ago would use significantly more electricity than a modern one.
Cars - we'll have self-driving cars in the next 10 to 20 years, and insurance prices will be so high for people with human driven cars that it won't be affordable to keep
Sneakers - unlike dress shoes that can resoled, sneakers seem to be replaceable wear items
