I'm a big subscriber to the /r/minimalism and /r/BuyItForLife philosophies. Let me start by saying I find the idea of a full wedding registry completely outdated because it infers 1) I don't already live with my partner and have all the necessities of modern living. 2) I will live in a fully furnished home, not a tiny 1 bedroom apartment. I also anticipate changing apartments annually since that's just sort of the market here. We're Chinese so the precedent for cash gifts is there, but a lot of people are still insisting we start a registry. So what are some good items for a newlywed couple to have? Preferably something that will have high utility and high lifespan. I know it's well-meaning, but please don't suggest donations to charity or contributions to a honeymoon fund. As I mentioned, the people inclined to give cash will give cash, but there are still those who staunchly want to give physical gifts. I'll start things off - the first thing we'll ask for is a nice Zojirushi rice cooker.
