My wife and have been married for a year and paid off all of our credit card debt. I still have about 7 year old medical debt in collections that I don't really know how to deal with. She has great credit. Because of my job, we have to relocate temporarily and we're going to live with her parents for a year (rent free and utilities free) and my income except for basic necessities will remain largely untouched. I've done some research on investing so I'm thinking about going to a financial planner to start investing in a roth ira and other retirement options but don't know what questions to ask or what to look for in the person/company I choose (as well as how to best handle my old debt.) Any advice Income ~$40k.
