For those that have moved cross country, what shipping/moving methods did you find useful? I've looked into hiring movers or a cube (too expensive), renting a truck and driving ourselves (seemingly more expensive, and the smallest truck available is 12ft. which is far too big), and shipping individual boxes.
We plan on selling most of our things, but would need to transport a few big pieces that we can't part with or would be too expensive to buy again: queen sized memory foam mattress, a 2 person dining table that I built, 1 long bench that my friend built. That's it for furniture - everything else is books, art, and a few pots and pans that will most likely be too expensive to repurchase. Maybe a box of clothes/shoes, but trying to get rid of as much as possible.
We don't have a car, but I've been trying to find a cargo van to rent one way. Seems hard to come by.
Curious how others have handled a move like this in as small a budget as possible.
