Looking to add some stability to my financial situation; I am 20, and studying full time. I feel like I'm constantly coming to the point where I have to sacrifice or put things off because of my lack of funds. I have a part time job, but it's sparse and the pay never really exceeds $150 on a good week. This is combined with government support (approx. $420 per fortnight). I have tried to budget before but I really never am able to stick to it, or some incident comes out of the blue to completely knock it out of structure. At the moment I'm in debt to an insurance company for about $1300 as well as several smaller payments that I haven't exactly defaulted on but are at the current moment waiting to be paid. Are there any techniques / tips that you could recommend to aid me in becoming a bit more fanatically stable? I'll break down my current budget at the moment below;
Whole Month Money = Approx. $620
Expenses (fortnightly): Rent = $100
Fuel = $70-100
Cigarettes = $60-90
Food = $60
Phone = $40
Other Expenses = $50-70
That leaves me with approx. $160 left over. I am currently in negotiations with the insurance company on paying back the money (I was the third party in an accident) but I'd assume it'll come to something around $15-20 a week. As I said, I'm constantly finding myself coming to the point where I am panicking in the first week because I've spent the majority of my money, any ideas and criticism would be appreciated.
