I've been saving up for a car, and recently I had a revelation. Is getting a car worth it? I live in Chicago so public transportation is always available. My job is within walking distance, and my school is close too. There's also uber or lyft. I'm not the club type, so I spend my free time at home programming or playing video games with friends.
All-in-all, do you think a car is a necessary expense if I'll rarely use it? Or should I forgo it until I absolutely need it, and continue to save?
Edit: Thank you all for the advice! I'll put off having a car until I need it, and in the mean time save as much as possible.
