Hi! I am new to this sub and investing in general. I've got tons of stuff to learn and read about but there's one question I have, that I am constantly thinking about right now.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to short oil companies like BP, Exxon Mobil, Shell, etc?

Every big car manufacturer is targeting the electric car market right now, which means that a huge petrol depending market is critcally endangered.

Now, like I said I basically know nothing about investing and the stock market in general, hence I am asking the question in this subreddit. I'd be very happy if you could give me some insights on whether this would be a good idea or not. (And why)
