Hello everyone. I'm not sure if this is the right place to go, but I saw a similar post here that had a lot of good responses so I'm hoping I can re-attatch the question. (I cant find a subreddit that is any closer than this.. so)

I guess I will cover a little background to try and avoid any "well here is a huge list of worries you should have to consider before doing the following".

I'm 28, and have had a desk job most of my life. I come home. I play a game for a few hours. Fall asleep. Go to work. I don't need a "Simple" life because everything is already simple, what I need is an adventurous life. A dangerous one. I need to reflect on what I have to know what I'd be missing. A few years back I picked up some basic survival info, Bush bows, water filtration from salt/fresh, skinning/hunting, and Now I'm looking for shelter building.

The goal is to get down enough to start making full weekend trips of living off the land in this way. I've learned all of what I do not currently from an old crazy sucker who was Native American and in the military, but I only know enough basics to walk out into the woods and drink some water, and in three days have a bow to kill and pray fishing works in the meantime. I don't have shelter building experience, but it's always been a dream to go out with some friends and pucker up to some tepees in the middle of nowhere.

No, we arent going to dive right in so please dont try to hold my hand and warn me. We will be going with proper supplies to speed things up to get used to building and ensure no ones going to die etc, but eventually we will go in practically naked (Ever play rust? haha. anyway..)

Point of this post is where to locate somewhere I can still go to do this in the US? I currently live in Texas and if anyone has ever heard of Hill Country maybe you know about places down that way. We need to be able to practice shelter building in peace and hopefully get lucky enough that what we build is still standing per visit. Or even if someone has land or a place we can pay to go is fine.
