I live in Northern California and have AT&T internet at home. I get 45Mbps and my promotional period of $69.99/mo over 12 months came to an end. They were going to charge me $119.99/mo for 45Mbps (that's not going to happen).

Anyways, I got the automated answering machine and said "cancel account" and I got transferred over to their loyalty department in Texas. The lady on the other end added me to a new promotional 12mo term for $40/mo (a savings of $30/mo!). But, she also added a $6/mo "Home Wire protection plan" which basically is insurance in case you ever need to call a ATT repair person, they come to your house and they find out that the problem was with your internal wiring. ProTip: You can buy a new cable for much less than $6 in case a pet chews it up!

So, I did have to call back AT&T again to remove the $6/mo charge from my account, which was remarkably easy.

All in all, my bill went from: $70/mo -> $120/mo -> $46/mo -> $40/mo. Pretty good deal IMO
