Currently planning out to set up some LED strips around my desk at home, and have those in sync with the audio, so as to flash with the bass thumps. There's already some control systems that can do that, as far as I know, but they're far too overprice for the simple job I think this should be.I have some basic EE understanding (I am an EE student afterall). What I've planned out so far:I need to split my audio output from the computer into two: one gets inputted to my speakers, and the other becomes the input to a low pass filter. That is, something that will cut off the higher frequencies and only output the lower ones. And of course, the lower the cut off frequency, the more bassier it'll be and the more focused the lights will become on the bass.My issue is this: what can I use as a cheap low pass filter? I know I need some sort of stereo control system type of thing, but I'm at a loss as to what search for, and I could easily from there tweak the knobs around (it's like plugging in just the bass speaker to a computer). Also, after that is set up, how do I hook up the lights to the output of the filter? From my understanding, the lights will need a power source (of around 12 V), and I doubt the control system's output for the speaker is high enough to power them.Any ideas?Just rounding up as much info as possible before going out and wasting money only to find it all go to waste. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2oIB1Fi
