Hey all. I'm not going to try and disguise this in anyway - we want to hang a sex swing cus we're kinky. There you go. :DWould any experienced DIYers or structural engineers be kind enough to advise please? We have an old house - 1840s - and we wanted to put this in the basement. We planned to hang it off the joists down there. As you'll see in the photos linked below, the joists have already been sistered with treated wood. This has been recently done to correct a little rot and splitting. At first, this made me think perhaps we shouldn't be hanging this hear. But if the joists are sistered then surely the strength is now excellent. The swing comes from a reputable company and is supplied with one welded eye coach screw. This product has hundreds of positive reviews but I don't trust an eye coach screw. This is what I'm thinking to do:Get four lengths of chain that is each capable of bearing let's say 200kg - so with swing, maybe 1000kg.If the size of the chain is big enough, hang these on the coach bolts that are used on the sistered joists. Do this across two joists, two chains on each. I might even get those porch swing springs capable of that load, on each.Use some heavy duty nuts the same thread as the existing bolts to hold the chain in place. Then use very strong carabiners on the end of each chain to attach to the swing. What's your thoughts on the safety of this please?Oh and if i ever need to disguise these hooks chains I did plan on buying a heavy bag! Thanks :)http://ift.tt/2ouKXT2 http://ift.tt/2o33mTA via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2omYtHT
