I'll be moving from SD to NYC and plan on renting a car to take myself there and move all my possessions. I'll have a driving partner, and we'll be taking alternating shifts to try to travel at least 16 hours every day with no real stops along the way. Accounting for sleep, this should take 3 days according to google maps, but I plan on getting 4 for safety. Currently my best deal is about $350 for the vehicle, and $200 for the gas taking a route through the south. Does anyone have any advice or knowledge that might help me save some money? Any dollar helps. Am I allowed to take 6 gallon tanks of gas across state borders?
