I am 50, and my mother passed away in 2015 with about 2M. She never made incredible money in her life...maybe 60-75K. She worked right up until she couldn't anymore due to cancer. In 1988 my fathers business went belly up, and they only had about 100K remaining.
I always though my mother was super frugal. She really did not live a great lifestyle with cars, or clothes, or a house. Did not eat out much, would never buy the popcorn at the theater. She did value somethings in life...would go to broadway plays, and some upgrades on the house. BTW...My parents were married 55 years, but my father really did not contribute financially. Was the crazy genius always with an invention that never panned out.
Getting the point....At 50 I see my peers living way outside of their means. Taking on debt and buying cars they cannot afford.
What she taught me...live within your means. Its not how much you make, its how much you spend. Save your money. Invest it well, and hold stocks long.
