Thanks so much for reading. I am a big firm attorney and recently received an offer to go work directly for my biggest client. It is a very large privately held real estate investment company in the Southeast. I have only had one job in my life - this current job after I graduated from Law School - so I do not know if this offer is as good as my client claims. It is incredibly hard to get data points on the subject online. I would really appreciate any input to see if this offer really is as good as my client thinks it is. My current job "stats" are below. Assume the hours worked would be similar at both jobs (except for vacation).
Current Job: 185k salary. 15k bonus IF I make my hours, "Unlimited" Vacation (i.e. no set days) but I generally only have been able to take one week off a year. No 401(k) Match. 80% Employer Paid Health Insurance. On Partnership Tract - 4 years left to be considered for partner - (avg. Jr. partner pay is 280k).
Job Offer: 210k Salary. 25k bonus. 5% 401k Match. Fully Funded Pension - Vests after 5 years - Pays out 1.8% of highest year salary for every year worked. Starts paying out at age 62. 100% Employer Paid Health Insurance. Free Childcare (I dont have kids though). Free Lunch and Gym Membership. 4 Weeks Paid Vacation.
My main apprehension is leaving behind prospects to make partner. But i think that may be because law school brainwashes you to see this as the main goal of an attorney. It will not necessarily mean a higher comp because there is plenty of room to grow at the new job. My client seems to think that what they offer is way above market and I would be crazy to pass it up. I am not sure.
I would really appreciate any thoughts or comments! Thank you.
