I'm tired of being out of money at the end of the week! After taxes I'll normally have 400-450 (let's say 425) every week depending on how many hours I work, but my bills and cost of transportation automatically cut that to 250.
Now, I never really thought about it this way because I wouldn't actually put money "away" for bills. I'd kind of just estimate and maybe fork over a little more money from my next check if I overspent a little. When I considered my average cost for utilities/rent/etc. it became apparent that there was no reason I should feel like I was just getting by.
So here it is, I know for a fact I spend anywhere from 100-130 dollars on weed and beer every week. To top it off I smoke about a pack of cigarettes every day, and not the cheap kind - 5.50 a pack means almost 40 dollars every week.
It's obvious that 80 dollars a week is enough to afford food for a week - I've been doing it for a pretty long time now. It's also obvious that even if I was an amazingly frugal chef I would only have meager savings.
I'm sitting here with two cigarettes left, and I really want to go to the store to buy a pack. I was considering getting a twelve pack and maybe an eighth... That was before I sat down and did the math. I mean what if instead of $80 of purely disposable income I had $250 of which I could designate as much as $150 to purely savings? I'm so happy just thinking of how much better life would be if I had that money to fall on when I really needed it. Wish me luck - this is going to be rough.
