Hi reddit,

I'm looking for some advice on how to approach this situation with Chase.

My car was broken into back in March and the robber stole my wallet with my ID and all my cards in it. I went out to my car about 30 minutes after the time I believe they smashed the window and promptly called all my banks and credit card companies to cancel the cards. The robbers were able to use one of my cards at a local gas station but other than that nothing was immediately charged onto my cards. The police came, and I filed a police report notifying them of the whole situation.

Here's where it gets interesting: three days later I log into my Chase account to transfer over some money from my savings to checking when I notice that my total account balance is down nearly $3,000. I see two cash withdrawals listed on my account which I did not perform. I immediately call Chase's fraud team and tell them that I did not perform these withdrawals and that i would like a freeze put onto my account. I explain to them the whole situation about my wallet being stolen and that whoever made those withdrawals used my ID or had a fake ID made using my information.

Five days after the initial $3,000 was stolen from my account I see another four withdrawals totaling $8,000 on my account. I'm thinking how is this possible since I had my account frozen?!? Turns out the thieve on the same day that they pulled the money in the in person withdrawals, hit up four other bank branches and cashed fake checks from someone else written to me as the payee using my savings account as collateral. The final kicker is that about two weeks after the $8,000 was pulled from my account I get a call from a manager at a Chase branch nearly 300 miles from my home town telling me that they have confiscated my ID from some Mexican lady with a blonde wig who was trying to use it in the drive through (I'm white).

Chase is telling my it can be up to another 60 days until I have the money put back into my account and it's getting difficult to pay bills without access to that money. I've went into a branch to fill out the forgery affidavit but I'm not sure what else I can do on my end.

Do you guys have any advice on how to best approach this situation to

1) make sure I get my money back from Chase and

2) Cover my bill responsibilities in the mean time?
