TLDR:How should I go about requesting a match? Should I even request a match? I haven't really negotiated salary aggressively so I always hesitate. I really need some help because I need to get back with them today.
***Background:* I lost my job last year and after months and months of searching, I found a job making $31/hour which was wayyyyyy less than I was making before. I accepted because I needed a job and had been searching for months. It's probably good to note that before I interviewed, I said my expected pay rate is between $50-55/hour.
I recently interviewed with Company A and received an offer making $52/hr (closer to what I used to make in a different city). I requested they at least bump it to $55/hour and they VERY quickly agreed. He even said "you caught me at a weak moment...OK"... I'm already REALLY excited about the pay bump I verbally accepted yesterday. After such a long time struggling for months last year, this will already be a great help while I try to catch up on everything. Here's the twist Company B just offered me $65/hour but I don't really want that role...I would much rather work with Company A and think it will be a better fit.
I've learned to live with so much less. Losing your job and not having a true source of income for months will do this to you. This is really important to me because I want to clean up my credit and pay off my student loans and other debts. Also would like to save as much as possible because I would like to buy a home in the next 2 years.
