I've had a shared checking with my parents all my life. Now that I will be making a salary (pharmacist), what should I look for in my own bank account? I see recommendations from credit unions, to places with no ATM fees, to free checking. It just seems like there is a lot to consider and I am sure there are things to take advantage of out there.

My bank has always been US Bank. I will be living in CO and otherwise the Midwest, MN/ND area.

I don't know if it is relevant at all, but I have my retirement accounts squared away.

So, what are the best things to take advantage of regarding bank accounts?
