I wouldn't recommend investing in the OTC ticker FNMA directly. But this could be a catalyst for new money to enter the housing market. I bought my home in April 2015 and I have already seen a 20% increase in value based on recent sales of comparable homes (Boston suburbs). I expect that we are about to see spike in home prices. Good news for mortgage-issuing banks and REITs with a residential focus.
